The Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council was formed in 1960 with 35 members in the church of St, Francis of Assisi and has grown to over 430 members with their own council hall. They are committed to the basic principles of the knights which are Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Father Andrew Doherty Assembly 0155 operates out of the council hall. The Council’s major theme is “Raising Funds for Charities” and “Giving and Helping Hand”

The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal men organization in the worlds. Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven,  and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members
